- Use Twitter as a means to build a personal learning network (pln) of other educators and tech coaches. I know Twitter is a powerful tool and I look forward to taking advantage of what it can offer.
- Blog weekly or bi-weekly using this blog feature on Weebly. The difficult part of blogging is knowing that either people are reading what I write (that makes me nervous) or that no one is reading what I write (why waste time with it).
- Use Facebook to stay connected to friends and organizations. This may sound like a strange resolution for some who feel like they use Facebook too much but I assure you that is not the case with me. I have made some great connections to friends, educators, and organizations on Facebook and I largely ignore Facebook as a resource. I know it can be a distraction and time waster so I am interested in learning more about setting boundaries and limits. Who knows, maybe that will lead to a future blog post or discussion about ways to better manage an digital life. I also feel strongly that as I encourage students to be good digital citizens, I should be engaging the digital world personally to provide more real world experience and practical knowledge. How can I have a pulse on the 'world out there' without participating in it?
- Set aside times of the day to manage email better. With the quantity of messages to answer, it is important to have some boundaries and limits for time spent answering email messages.
Each new year people make resolutions to lose weight, read more, eat less, exercise more, etc. I have some of those personal goals for myself but this year I thought I would make some Tech Resolutions as well. Why this geeky addition to traditional resolutions? After one semester in the role of an eLearning Coach, I began to realize that there are a number of technologies that I learn about but never really explore and put to good use. In response, I thought I would it would be worthwhile to take some important technology tools and explore them more deeply by using them on a regular basis. Here are some of my resolutions for the new year (school year anyway):
I am excited about to see what 2012 will hold! Feel free to share your resolutions below in the comments or tweet about them #2012techresolutions. If you get a chance, ask me how I'm doing, check the blog or my twitter feed to see if I'm keeping up (@klaviermann76). Have a great new year!
